Alan W. Braun led Industrial Contractors Inc. (ICI), a family-owned general, mechanical, and electrical construction company located in Evansville, IN from 1983 to 2011. Continually ranked as one of Engineering News-Record (ENR) Top 400 Contractors, ICI was acquired by Skanska in 2011 and established as Industrial Contractors Skanska, where Alan served as chairman emeritus until his retirement in 2017.

Alan also previously served as vice president of Professional Consultants—an ENR Top 500 Design Firm; president of Industrial Equipment; vice president of Tri-State Refractories; and general partner in Braun Realty. 

Alan has been a longtime member of the University of Evansville's Board of Trustees and served as chairman for 3 years. He was a director of both Old National Bank and Koch Enterprises and served as chair for the Deaconess Hospital Foundation and Junior Achievement of Southwest Indiana. Alan also guided large fund drives for the Habitat for Humanity of Southwestern Indiana and the United Way of Southwestern Indiana.

Alan received a bachelor of business administration in accounting from the University of Notre Dame in 1966, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Evansville in 2019.
